When you carry pointed objects like pencils or sticks you should:
 
1. Always walk carrying the pointy side down.
 
2. Run, but be careful.
 
3. Run if you want to, but put pointy objects in a box or case.

That way if you trip or fall the point won't be as likely to puncture you.

2. Run, but be careful. WRONG.
Trying to be careful when you're running with a pointy object isn't a good idea. Most accidents happen when you least expect it. It's a better idea to either walk with the object facing down or put it into a hard case. Never run with pointy objects.

3. Run if you want to, but put pointy objects in a box or case. RIGHT.
If you have to run, put pointy objects into something hard like a plastic case or a shoebox. If you fall, the case or box will protect you and your eyes from injury.
